Our First Hello...finally a stopping place

Hi all,

Some of you may know that we have been on this crazy "that's lots of driving" road trip for the past 8 days. Some of you may not. Anyway, here we are in Boulder, CO. Well we are actually 20 miles up in the Rockies -- a 30 minute drive -- from Boulder. This is the first place we've actually stayed for more than 1 day. It's been a whirlwind and this is our first real chance to even sit at the computer. We left Charlie with Pops up at the Kelly Dahl campground practicing on the slingshot and God knows what else.

So, we've traveled approximately 2,800 miles so far and start heading west tomorrow. It has certainly been the adventure that we were asking for - more like real life than we were fantasizing about. (ie. Carlos and I have a very hard time making decisions together most of all about driving directions...you can imagine what kind of mess this has created at times. The worst is if we've been driving for more than 3 hours, have not eaten anything except sesame sticks and sunflower seeds and don't have a campsite. Oh, right! This is equivalent to about 60% of the time...).

We made no reservations for camping or otherwise this entire trip, which has been both exciting and totally ridiculous. "You asked for an adventure," is what my dad said after we were ushered away from a campground called Ruby's in eastern Washington (the guy was standing outside waving us away before we even got there as if he knew we were coming shouting "We're closed. We're closed." Except that we had just called to get the rates and the lady said they were open. The guys says..."Well I guess you could camp on the lawn..." No thanks, I think we'll pass.

Crazy. We ended up just inside of Idaho at the Suntree RV park and campground were we pitched a tent on their lawn. The next morning was Charlie's birthday. He woke up under the lights of the Conoco Gas Station and had a chocolate sprinkle doughnut with candles proclaiming "I'm five. I'm five." repeatedly.

That's all I've got for now. It's dark now and we've got to get back to cook up some grub. (You don't want to know.)

Hopefully there will be more before we return.

Check out the pics.
